The TAIBU Learning Institute operates as a strategic initiative of TAIBU Community Health Centre, guided by its Board of Directors and aligned with its mission to influence the Black health and social services ecosystem.

About TAIBU Community Health Centre

For over 18 years, TAIBU Community Health Centre has served Black, Francophone, and racialized communities in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Founded on a vision of excellence in primary healthcare and social services, TAIBU has developed innovative, community-driven approaches to Black health and wellbeing.

In particular, TAIBU has refined its Model of Black Health & Wellbeing, an Africentric framework grounded in prevention, restoration, and advancement.

Recognized for its leadership, TAIBU has received multiple awards for community service, health promotion, and transformational change.

Why the Learning Institute Was Established

Guided by the Board of Directors’ strategic priority of influencing the Black health and social services ecosystem, TAIBU established the Learning Institute to extend its impact beyond direct service delivery.

The Institute was created to share:

  • Tested models of Black health and wellbeing
  • Innovative practices in community engagement and empowerment
  • Training and capacity-building resources
  • Research and policy insights
  • Africentric approaches to program development, implementation, and evaluation

Governance & Accountability

The TAIBU Learning Institute operates under the governance framework of TAIBU Community Health Centre and is accountable to its Board of Directors.

The Institute aligns with TAIBU’s strategic plan, values, and commitments to community accountability, anti-Black racism, and systems transformation. This ensures that all learning resources, training modules, and research initiatives remain rooted in community voice, lived experience, and institutional responsibility.
